I'm sure you are all aware of the recent disaster...make that, fuck up! that has been caused by the Fukushima power plant here in Japan. Due to nuclear power and it's radiation leaks, the environment around Fukushima has been devastated. The farming is now non existent with crops rendered useless. The ocean is polluted along with the fish and people have had to leave their homes for many miles around. The problem isn't getting any better either as this crap spreading globally through our air and sea. The Govertment have continually lied and mishandled the whole operation. The impact this will have on us all is... unimaginable.

After having first hand knowledge of how this is effecting us all here in Tokyo - which is still hundred of kilometres away - I am convinced that nuclear power is not a safe and reliable form of energy for our planet. Simply put, it is unsustainable. With much care needed for a period of over 100,000 years to be rid of nuclear waste, ourselves only being on the planet a mere 55,000 years there is no argument that such distructive and dangerous waste can be handled safely for such an incredible amount of time. And with only one planet, is putting this waste in the ground really an answer? The number of plants on our planet is alarming. it's growing and it's simply all to do with Govertment greed and money.

With that in mind there is a global protest being held this Sunday in various cities around the world. I myself am going to the Tokyo protest to lend support. I urge you to take a look at the site linked and if you agree and are able to attend one of those demos then please do.

No to nuclear energy. Invest in alternative resources!!!

The week that was my life was basically as goes:

I got a new (nothing to be proud about) job :) :/

I attempted to do my taxes by myself in a non speaking full on Japanese tax office. Zero help from anyone there...an hour queuing in wrong lines and filling in wrong forms. Unabashed humiliation and shame feeling like a lost baby. left empty handed but was later helped by my DD.

Still contemplating what i am doing with my self (has been ongoing for years)

Oh and ps, yay! Turns out i'm getting a ton of money back from the tax office so yay me!

Living abroad for eleven months of the year certainly makes you realize a lot of things upon return home.

Points of interest:

The weather in England isn’t as bad as you thought it was. In fact, it turns out to be warmer than it is in Tokyo (for February.)
The shopping (choice) sucks ass compared to Tokyo and it's safe to safe Manchester has one electrical shop in the city centre.
Clothes shopping is cheaper in England. Nothing beats Tokyo for choice and originality though. London has better vintage finds.
Starbucks in England are total cunts who charge you more to drink their shit, syrupy tea inside their unclean shop.
Necks have become the place of choice for chav chosen tattoos.
No matter how much you think you have changed your diet and become such a healthier eater, you’ll revert back to your old ways once you see gingerbread, egg custards (see below), Cadbury chocolate and God knows what else.

The English will always drink like fishes and a night out with my English friends will always end in drunken carnage.
Tokyo is definitely my home now and I’m happy to say that.
I break my digital camera everytime I come home.
London is still my favourite city and somewhere I hope to live (at some point in my life.)
Friends don’t change and will always feel like I just saw them yesterday.
I spend too much - but that's not really just when i come home unfortunately.
I miss English humour. No one else greets their friends with 'hiya, get your cock out' amongst other things.

I think overall though on this trip, I’ve learned to always look forward and never look back. The future has too much to offer me and everyone from my past who is present in my life will also move forward with me.

A/W10/11 campaign ads.

So the new ads have been coming in for A/W 2010/11. They are always my favourite as I always feel there's more of a story to them, depth etc.

Prada: stunning! I like how the same kind of concept/ message runs through Prada ads. I feel like you could put all the campaign photos from different seasons together and they would tell one long story.

Dolce and Gabbana : UNF!!!!!

YvesSaintLaurent: kinda boring. Nothing really new here although I like the up close angle shot (top right).

Burberry: No Lily Donaldson this time. I love the impact the Burberry ads always carry but the group always seem intimidating. They look like the group of cool kids at school who are always mean to you but you still want to be their friend.

Louis Vuitton: er....STUNNING! I think they're not so exciting but have opted for the more classic, demure side of what Louis Vuitton originally was. No more Madonna or other celebs please! And Christy Turlington! Bitch does NOT age!!! Karen is my fave in these though ;-)

There aren't enough days in a weekend.

My weekend basically consisted of Michelle's leaving party. We had dinner Saturday night on the 52nd floor of the Sumitomo building in Tokyo. We ate sushi, white fish and green tea tofu and drank lots of wine and beer. I wore my new Marc Jacobs top!

After that we went dancing in Shinjuku til the morning.

On Sunday we went to Harajuku and Michelle bought a really nice pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses.

The length was a little boring so I turned them up and added pins. I thought they went with the print - a sort of rib cage effect. I used about 400 pins and it took me 3 hours lol :/

On Wednesday night I went for dinner with my 'japanese family'. I call them that as that is exactly what they are. Kenichi and his wife Tomiko have taken care of me and shown me such kindness and help over the last six years that I know I can never repay or thank them enough. Some of the kindest and most considerate people I know I will ever meet.

The food! We ate homemade sushi, steak, gobo salad, squid ink yaki soba amongst other things.

Some pictures of their house. The house dates back over 500 years and has been in the family for all that time.

This is a huge plaque he has hanging over the entrance hall. It's a collection of prayers and blessings given by Buddhist priests to his family over a period of 200 years that have been collected. The most recent lay on top. The dark mass you can see is the layers of old paper/ prayers.

These beans are the original wooden beams that have always been in the house. He had them removed, treated and restored when the house was remodeled (which took over six months).

The first job I ever wanted to do was to be a builder and build my own house.

My best friend is a girl named Louise. We've been best friends since we were five and are inseparable. I consider her family.

I have four scars: appendix, hernia, a gash down my left leg (drunk biking accident) and a scar between my left thumb and forefinger from where a girl jabbed her nail in my hand when I was ten.

I guess you now know I have had two operations.

I have five tattoos.

I had four facial piercings in uni. I now only have one. I also had the web pierced between my right thumb and forefinger - which got infected.

I and my father saw a ghost when I was younger in my house.

I get really irate at business men who wear white sports socks and people who clap their hands when they find something funny.

I freak out if I see crossed cutlery - or anything crossed really. I have to lay it parallel.

I hate confrontation and simply walk away from it.

I don't get phased by much.

I have no problem spending all my money on clothes. Ill happily spend money on clothes - even if it means I can't afford to go out and wear them

When I'm sad I like to go for walks around the city by myself. I particulary am fond of cemeteries - Yanaka - an old area of Tokyo. I like to read books there and read old tomb stones.

I still think about my first love daily.

People say I come across as confident but Im a very self conscious type and can be shy.

When I was in school and off sick, I would always spend the day watching two movies: 'friend green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe' and 'Singles.'

I remember the first time I told the time. I was 4 and it was a summer afternoon. I walked into the living room and saw my mum and said 'its 4:20pm.'

I only have one regret and that was that I didn't study hard enough at uni. I feel like I wasted a lot of potential.

I make sure I find something to smile about everyday. I believe smiling definitely benefits your health.

One thing that constantly freaks me out is that I seem to glance at the clock and its 9:11 am/ pm. I catch that time at least two times a week.

Yes, I'm a fucking label whore in this picture lol. This is what I wore today shopping around Harajuku with Rita. I LOVE those CDG pants so much. There's a cute story behind them actually..

So years ago when they first came out (and what I would say set a standard in fashion and defined the character of what CDG is all about), I was in awe. Of course, back then, I was a lot younger with crap all income and about 1000 miles out of reach of the nearest cool store. (the income thing hasn't changed btw.) Anyway, they were snapped up obviously and for years I searched through ebay etc in vain. Then one day, about two years ago I was looking through this little treasure trove store in my neighbourhood here in Tokyo and what did I pull off a rail of trousers? THESE! I couldn't believe it. Once I got over the excitement the next thing that jumped into my mind was "there's no way they'll fit". I mean this is Japan where even the heffas are slim. So I took them to the fitting room and lo and behold, they on like a glove! I dropped the money and skipped out of their shitting skittles and rainbows! :)

And that's how I got a pair of collectors -probably one of the most collected items- of CDG.

Back to my weekend, it has been kinda mellow. Lots of eating and not so much partying. Korean barbeque Saturday night, followed by Sunday shopping in Harajuku, ramen for dinner and then cinema. NIce! Actually feel ready to face the week :)

Rita's boots which I really like! I've never seen them before. She bought this really interesting - kinda pastel/ mint green - shrink skirt today and it looked so good with these boots. I need to get pics!

And on another topic... I went into the electrical store tonight to pick up a cover for my iPhone. Shit! I know that everyone in Japan goes crazy for little phone keyring things but i didn't know how big a business it was. They are SERIOUS about that shit! lol

So we went down to the Dresscamp show which, in my opinion is in a league of it's own in Japan.It's really in demand in England ~as far as I know~ but the label keeps refusing to distribute it abroad. Which is kinda cool.
I loved the crochet leggins that ran throughout as well as the colour palette of black, white, purple and forest green. The coats were reminiscent of this season's burberry prorsum but it was something new for dresscamp as usually they focus on light jackets.... so let's let that slide. Interesting prints on the dresses though, as always.

J'adore!!!

Dresscamp is such an amazing label with so much potential. I wish they would just get over this pretentious 'keep it in Japan' attitude. I know they are expanding to a few locations in Asia but I really think they have great potential in the European and American market.

So it's Tokyo fashion week again. So far it's been kinda fun. A bit quiet I feel compared to last season but some shows have been fun nonetheless.

My favourite so far was Aguri Sagimori who's palette consisted mainly of black. Usually not a fan of all black but the cuts were very feminine yet the fabrics were a mix of light silks and wool.A lot of black dresses with surprising silver back detail that shon out. it kinda worked. I think her collection has been one of the strongest so far. She also included some interesting head pieces which looked like silver butterflies. Not too sure though as I couldn't make it out properly. Nothing new I suppose but a lot of the Tokyo collections seem to forget about accessories etc and focus mainly on the clothes so it was nice to see.

I can't begin to describe how sad and shocked I am to hear of Alexander McQueens passing. The man was a living legend. A genius talent who managed to capture a mixture of the most macabre and gothic yet beauty in his mesmerizing pieces. The man mixed the unimaginable together and always managed to create something original. There was no one out there like him and I am truly sorry to hear what has happened. It goes to show that no one is super human. The world has lost one of the most creative people we had though. Thank you Alexander McQueen for leaving us your lasting impression <3

What is going on with the spring summer ads so far? I am not feeling the boring, Chloe horse riding mum ads and i don't think the cut and paste Balenciaga approach is all too effective (great collection though).
The best I have seen so far is of course, Givenchy who are taking pole position in fashion right now. Love the boldness, the chemistry.....fire!

Also have to give credit to Phoebe Philo who is doing a great job at Celine. Her designs are perfect for the label. Not sure of this ad though.... the layout and the font reminds of a Marc Jacons /Jeurgen Teller ad.

One thing i miss about The UK is THE HIGHSTREET!!! Seriously, the British highstreet is such a good place to go shopping, especially women. i found this article today in the guardian online outlining ten great party dresses for xmas.
Of course, if you're thinking in terms of fabrics and quality, then obviously they are going to pale in comparison to a high end brand. That said, the high street designers should be given merit as they are on the ball with design, print and cut. Why shouldn't the average person be denied what's going on in Vogue?

I don't know how to feel about the last few days and the events that have gone on. Both here and away, it's like a domino effect of negativity.

To be sat at home with my friends now, in my local pub away from the big cities, the vibrant, extravagant looks, the wannabes scratching and screaming to be seen as the most original, inventive and creative. Sitting amongst real people, with nothing to hide, who have real stories etched on their faces.

To laugh and be understood instantly. To come home and have my parents glance round when I walk through the door. The usual joke about what I had been doing or who with or what was I thinking when I chose to wear what I did. I suppose that is happiness to me. As much as I usually tell myself it isn't, I always seem to fall back on it when I don't feel the best.

Glad to hear the Uniqlo/ Jil Sander collaboration has a date; so excited for this!!! It'll launch in the US and the UK on October 1st and Asia October 3rd. I can't wait to check it out.
